If shaving exfoliates skin why does it cause ingrown hairs?

Shaving is supposed to exfoliate right? And exfoliating helps prevent ingrown hairs so how does shaving cause ingrown hairs? If shaving exfoliates skin why does it cause ingrown hairs?
Shaving can exfoliate to the point that dragging a razor across your skin can. However, it also slices hairs off down to the root. Even if your razor fully exfoliates your skin, this only applies to the very top layer (out of 7). The hair root can get underneath one or more of the other layers and get stuck, causing a very painful and irritating ingrown hair.

Shaving doesn't exfoliate...it cuts the hair off at or slightly below the skin...
Male hair is coarser than female hair, and after shaving the follicle is left slightly open allowing for the curlier coarse hair to reverse its direction - right back into your skin.

Try this - use a mild apricot exfoliant BEFORE shaving to open the pores and follicles and get get rid of excess skin cells. Immediately after shaving, apply ice cold water to your face to close the pores, and use a moisturizer for male skin. Seems like a lot of maintainance, but it should help avert ingrown hairs.
maybe cuz ur face is weird
Because when you shave too close it cuts the hairs below the skin level and then they grow back into the skin itself == an ingrown hair.
maybe your should shave off your face and than tell people the devil told you to do it.
Your supposed to exfoliate before you shave..........shaving won't do it for ya..
thats how your body system grows its like ur hair on ur head that grows and u cut it it's like that
the hair retracts slightly, then as it begins to grow again it doesn't escape the follicle, thereby growing under the skin hence -ingrown hair.
